The Lord has impressed upon me and many the chapters and verses of Hebrews 11-13.

On reading these verses verbally, I realise chapter 11 depicts the examples of what faith is. It is not Hebrews 11:1 (that is so often memorised and we hold fast to), but v2 "This is what the ancients were commended for." It is as if God is saying that this faith that we see, in the remaining verses in chapter 11, is no longer as commonly seen in this generation.

Sad but true, as the media and other influences around us such as material needs and gains and sinful desires tempt us in every moment. This is the reason why we should desire to have a deeper relationship with God even more. More and more of Him, and lesser of ourselves. So indeed, we need to die to self. This is unrecognised and unknown to many because we are too satisfied with our lives. If only, we take a step back and look at the faith that the ancients had. We are nowhere near that, nor do we realise it.

Brothers and sisters, let us continue to fix our eyes on Jesus, throwing every sin that entangles and run this race with perseverance, knowing that God is sovereign and loving, that we will not lose heart. Hebrews 12.

Do not be afraid. Do not be dismayed. Be contented! with what we have, for God has promised "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." Hebrews 13:5
