Surprise surprise as I'm being posted to Team 4 taking care of Breast cancer patients.
And UQ med didnt cover much on Breast cancer, other than the exam finals which almost shook us off our chairs.. Time to read up on Breast cancer!
Do you know? It is advisable to go for mammogram for Singaporeans aged 40 years and above?
**More "fun" facts abt breasts in the next 2 weeks.
All in all, witnessed a colonoscopy and Oral-oesophageal-duodenal endoscopy plus a mastectomy.. Quite a lot to absorb in one day!
The big boo boo came when I received an sms from Dr Kalshar to go to OT (Operating Theatre) 20 and I had no idea where it was. Not wanting to "malu" myself, I went searching for the OT on my own and thank God I found it. I dunno how but I knew God led me there quite miraculously cos there were no signs to that secret place...
And I realised I had to scrub-in (means change into the green surgical ward clothing)... And oh my goshie cos I dun really know how to do it the SG way. Yes, only slight difference from that in Aussie, but what is THAT difference? Eventually, I managed to scrub in from head to toe by copying what others have worn and guidance from a senior doc where the apparatus were.. But, I forgot to change out of my shoes.... Wearing your "outside" shoes into the OT brings in bacteria!! Heng Dr Kalsar was nice enough not to scold me.. Very apologetic to him and the sedated patient I was....
And Dr Ho, the main surgeon for the mastectomy was super angry at her assistant... The "ugly" side of doctors which we were all warned against... Oh man.... But her skills of tying notes were inexplicably quick and meticulous.. Wow!
The anaesthetist had the best life in OT as I've seen.
Good day, but loads to read up!
Ward rounds tmr at 730am.. TTSH!!
