Friday was a time well spent with God, friends and also some time in solitude.
Sent Jay to Gold Coast Airport which gave myself an opportunity to drive to Bilinga Beach. The beach was wonderful, much better than Surfer's Paradise beach. I heart the natural beauty of beaches - free from shops, concrete slabs, fences and even ships and "reclaimed" islands (think Sentosa..) Well, spent abt 15min admiring the beach and absorbing the sun and wind. The wonders of God's creation.
Drove back to Indooroopily where I caught "My Sisters Keepers". Didnt know what it was about before watching and no regrets after that. The movie spoke to me in many aspects... Think Leukaemia - the tests (eg. bone marrow aspiration) and chemotherapy you have to go through, the tough decisions the parents have to make.. I heart my parents. I began to realise how tough it was for them then.
The "dad" in the show reminded me of my own dad.. A man of not many words, but his eyes says everything. I can still remember that day when the doctor spoke to my dad in private, I sensed sth huge was happening. But my dad smiled bravely and told me everything was fine. He tried giving me the reassuring look, but his smile gave it away. Best daddy in the world.
The show touched on medical ethics too, in particular the competence of a 14 yr old gal to make her own decision. Gaining medical emancipation against her parents' will. Buzz words began to appear.. Consent.. Competence.. Authority.. Gillick's principle.. Paternalism.. Maleficience..... Ethics and law is a grey area and it always will be..
Love the twist at the end when the Leukaemic gal was the mastermind of the entire plot. Very emotional and it just tells you what's going thru the patients' minds when faced with such diseases. Very touching indeed.
Of course, the only bad side of the movie was the wrong signal of pre-marital sex. The movie made it seem so simple and natural but no, kids if you're reading this.. Pre-marital sex is wrong..
There was life group at night and I spent 2 hours cooking Curry Seafood Chicken Wings.. Glad many liked it but I know there's lotsa room for improvement. 3 more years to improve on ;) Good time of sharing during Bible discussion. Topic: "What is God to you?" Jehovah Nissi, Raah, Shalom, Jireh, Rophe, Tsidkenu... Great time of getting to know God better, for both believers and pre-believers.
Just came back from District 9 with Mar*co, Ro*bin, Ray*mond and De*rek. The movie was not bad just that the "prawn" aliens look more like "cockroaches". haha.. Good plot! Get to see the humane side of aliens. Wished there was more effects though.. Given it's Peter Jackson's production.
